The Somaliland Minister for Environment and Rural Development Madam Shukri Haji Ismail Bandare has today officially closed a training program for 18 participants from Ministry’s regional offices.

Speaking at a closing event held at the Ministry office in Hargeisa, Shukri Haji Ismail has explained the aim of the training: "" The objective of the training was to provide an opportunity for learning to Ministry staff in the regions. Our strategy is to build the capacity of those people, to monitor implementation of what they have learnt and my message to them is, you are all required to implement what you have learnt responsibly and to pass the knowledge and skills to other colleagues such as forestry staff"

The training lasted for 18 days and was provided by an international expert. Previously, a Forestry Management training was given to staff from Ministry's regional offices. Both trainings are funded by Somaliland Development Fund . Participants included 3 women and 15 men and are employed by Ministry of Environment and Rural Development at regional offices. The objective of the training was to enhance capacity and skills of Ministry staff to better manage rangeland in a sustainable and environmental friendly manner; and to monitor and assess the rangeland.

"The training course was very important and we were taught on developing strategies for rangeland. The facilitator was from Sudan and we felt to share similar environmental experiences, thus our understerstading of the course content was very high" remarked Mr Dahir Ahmed Qolanbi- one of the training participants.
