Official Handover of Motor Vehicles to Ministries and Agencies Implementing SDF Funded Projects
The Somaliland Development Fund has today officially handed over sixteen motor vehicles to the five line Ministries and two government Agencies implementing Somaliland Development Fund (SDF) projects at the Ministry of National Planning and Development offices.
The handover event was officiated by the Hon. Dr. Sa’ad Ali Shire, the Minister of National Planning and Development who is also the chairperson of the National Planning Commission and the SDF Joint Steering Committee. The event was attended by Ministers and senior officials from the Ministries implementing SDF projects and other government agencies whose projects are in the process of being developed. The Ministries which received their vehicles today include:
Ministry of Agriculture - 2
Ministry of Environment and Rural Development - 3
Ministry of Livestock - 3
Ministry of National Planning and Development - 2
Ministry of Water Resources - 2
Hargeisa Water Agency - 2
Roads Development Agency - 2
The sixteen brand new Toyota Hillux pick-up trucks will be used by the Project Management Teams in line Ministries and government Agencies in monitoring and supervision of SDF funded projects, which are spread across the length and breadth of Somaliland. The vehicles, which were supplied by Toyota Marill – Hargeisa, were procured through open tendering process which involved SDF Secretariat, representatives of the respective Ministries and government Agencies and observed by the National Tender Board.
While thanking the governments UK, Demark, Norway and the Netherlands for their generous contribution to the people of Somaliland, Minister of National Planning and Development Dr. Sa’ad Ali Shire said that “transport is a critical element in the implementation of SDF projects. The motor vehicles will provide the needed mobility to the Ministry teams to easily reach the communities served to effectively monitor the projects”. Similar sentiments were shared by the Minister of Environment and Rural Development Hon. Shukri Ismail who thanked the donors for their support and believe in the Government and people of Somaliland. The Minister said that “for a young and growing Ministry like MoE&RD, the SDF is just God sent. SDF focus on capacity building of Ministries is commendable and indeed a welcome gesture, which will go a long way in enabling our Ministry in discharging its’ mandate”.

The Somaliland Development Fund (SDF) is a 4 - year fund designed to support the Government of Somaliland (GoSL) filling a critical gap supporting projects that are fully aligned to the National Development Plan (NDP). SDF is currently funded by the Department for International Development (DFID), the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), the Government of Norway and Kingdom of the Netherlands.
